![]() Also its bone stock and I'm looking at reliability mods before I start trying to increase power. Any advice on what to look for in known issues, problem areas, etc would be cool. I'm just not too familiar with the OBS fords, I ran rangers and f150's back in the day before jumping up to the 99'. Now I'm back to my f-150 and a good chunk of cash and I'm really debating on that 97. Tranny blew at 140k, normal leaks, dumb issues with the crossover steering, etc but still was my favorite truck ever. My 99 though was a beast, SC, LB, 7.3 with a 12" lift on 40's. I sold it with 140k and got my money back and the note paid off. My 11' was pretty much stock except level kit and 35's on 20" XD's and had zero issues besides at 57k I had to buy a new radiator cuz of it being a first yr. I'm going to look at it over the next few days in person to test drive it. It's a 97,7.3,CC,LB,F350 pretty mint condition. I tow occasionally no more than 10k combined trailer weight. I'm in construction and mostly monitor jobsites and projects. he's got some good ideas - changing the top oil for injectors as one example. You need to know your tranny oil temp!! As an interested 7.3 buyer check here. ![]() I use an exhaust brake and learned you can over-heat a diesel tranny going down long hills in 2nd gear although Ford says you can't. Know where it's going to shift going up hill and do it manually. If you pull heavy, get a EGT gauge, a tranny oil temp gauge, and a set of gauges showing the oil press for each of the three gears. Do not use Ford parts if you need to rebuild. I didn't say anything about the tranny because it "sucks". If you need a new starter get one of these, they spin the motor almost twice as fast for quick starts. Had to replace the glow plugs once, the turbo about 120k, and a new glow plug relay, and just this winter a db gear reduction starter because the relay on the old starter burnt up. is great, no rust or other problems even though never garaged and only waxed once a year. The truck itself, suspension, paint, and etc. I have been pulling a 12,000 trailer most of the time, in the mountains. It's a great body but rides a little rough compared to newer ones. I have a "96" XLT extended cab Heavy Duty 250 with 230k miles.
